Here's a chance to give back locally!
Dear
Community Member,
Founded in
1978, the Downtown Women's Center is the only resource in Los Angeles that is
exclusively dedicated to serving the unique needs of homeless and very
low-income women in downtown Los Angeles’ Skid Row community. The mission
of the Downtown Women’s Center is to provide permanent supportive housing and a
safe and healthy community fostering dignity, respect, and personal stability,
and to advocate ending homelessness for women.
In November
we plan to open our newly renovated Residence on Los Angeles Street, just
a few blocks away from our current location! Along with the new Residence we
will be opening a resale boutique that will focus on clothing, furniture, and
accessories. We are planning to open this new social enterprise soon, and we
need your help!
We
currently have an urgent need for volunteers the next two weeks as we set up
our new boutique! Volunteers would be developing a sorting system, setting up
our stockroom, and participating in inventory preparation. The following dates
and times are available:
- Thursday, October 18th: 9:30am-12:30pm, 1:00-4:00pm
- Friday, October 19th: 9:30am-12:30pm, 1:00-4:00pm
- Monday, October 22nd through Thursday, October 25th: 9:30am-12:30pm, 1:00-4:00pm
We
are also available for weekends and evenings based on interest. Ideally, we are
hoping to recruit groups of individuals (5-10 people) to work for chunks of
time on each project. Please let me know if you are interested in helping,
or you may contact Camille Crenshaw directly at the contact below!!
